Our writing tutor program is designed to develop fundamental writing skills, powers of argument, analysis, and to provide numerous theoretical approaches to the study of literature. These tools will serve as the backbone for a lifetime of critical thinking and will definitely help students achieve immediate improvement and success in English, both in the classroom and in passing the BC Provincial Exam.
Fundamental writing skills
Emphasis is on learning the structures associated with academic writing. Students will gain the ability to transform writing concepts into measurable skills that can be applied to every assignment.
Powers of persuasion
Students learn the key features of argumentation, the rules of deductive and inductive logic, and to look for and avoid specific types of errors.
Analysis
Students learn how to use a systematic method of analysis.
Theoretical approaches
Students will be exposed to a number of theories from a variety of disciplines including sociology, psychology and history. Students will learn to draw on these diverse ideas and approaches to develop rigorous arguments.
